Telecommunications
Research
The
Telecommunications Research Group at Queen's University is currently
active in research across the main sector areas of telecommunications:
access, switching, transmission and Network Management. The Group's
research experience ranges from physical layer issues to overall
network performance analysis.
Specific areas of expertise include: Network architectures and protocols:
high-speed computer and Telecommunications networks; Mobile and
Wireless networks; Quality of service (QoS) architectures; Network
modelling and simulation; Transmission networks (SDH/SONET/DWDM);
fast packet switching; and Network Management systems and architectures.
The group has a strong track record in technology transfer and has
considerable working experience of telecommunications technologies
through a number of International trials (Trans-European Network
for the Integration of Broadband Communications programme, ACTS,
Framework 5) and nationally funded (EPSRC) projects. Many research
programmes are carried out in close liaison with industry (e.g.
Nortel Networks, Fujitsu, Philips), resulting in the direct transfer
of both ideas and people with highly relevant advanced technology
skills.
