The principal aim of ths ongoing research is to find ways of delivering worthwhile Virtual Reality technology across a range of applications and to determine whether: Systems that could be built, at a cost that could be justified, meets the requirements.

For example, to deliver the technological complexity of a flight simulator in all virtual training applications would seem pointless. In fact, it may be that, some training applications can make do with a darkened room showing moving images projected onto the four walls. What is required however, is some form of cheap viability testing to determine if the use of a VE will enhance training and learning. The system that we are developing is intended to provide researchers with a low cost semi-immersive VR environment for evaluation purposes. By testing a range of training scenarios in a low cost system such as this it should be possible to answer the question posed above.
