Research Activities

While there are cross-cutting themes to our work such as body-centric communications, connected health, real time localisation and wireless networked control systems, our research activities are categorized into three main 'topics': antennas, channels and networks. We are also increasingly involved in security applications of wireless networks. Not all details are listed here so navigate using the research activities sub-menu or click on the links below find out more.

Wearable and integrated antennas research

Bodyworn and compact antenna design ranging from medical implant antennas to highly efficient antennas for over the body surface communication to single-feed switchable patch antennas for controlling on- and off-body propagation.

Wireless channels and radiowave propagation research

Channel characterisation and modelling with a particular emphasis on human body effects on wireless systems.

Networks research projects

Our focus is on networking & protocols for short range wireless links and our approach is to start from the perspective of the wireless channel.

Security research projects

These activities are focused on two broad areas: tracking and localisation (physical security) and joint security / energy saving protocols for short range radio applications (data security).
