SATURN - Secure Ad-hoc Tracking Using RFID Networks

Investigators: Simon Cotton & William Scanlon

SATURN RFID tagThe aim of this project was to develop a real-time localisation and tracking system in which the communication between RFID tags and interrogators are secure, and sufficiently low cost to make it attractive for use in a wide range of applications where traditional systems are not appropriate. The project was completed in June 2010 with a final demonstration involving active RFID tags and readers. The demonstration included a basic listing of tag locations.

This was a technology transfer Proof of Concept programme. These programmes support the pre-commercialisation of leading-edge technologies emerging from Northern Ireland’s research organisations. The financial assistance provided by the programme helps researchers to export their ideas and inventions from the laboratory to the global marketplace.
